Landfill-Southmoor Nature Reserve- Havant-Hampshire
This might be of no news to anybody who lives nearby to this place. It is perhaps somewhere to park up and look at the sea, walk your dog, eat your McDonalds and do whatever other car based things that pop up, but to me as a first time visitor it was the most beautifully odd piece of land situated at the back of an industrial estate.
I think the level of wild flowers and the late summer heat had a lot to do with it and for the first time ever I saw a Dyers Weld plant.
It is these little corners out the way that always produce the best stuff. Growing up, these old industrial edgelands where common where I lived and they were just there, you walked around them, cut through them and thought nothing more about what they were used for and why.
I hope to visit again in the winter to see the differences and the Brent Geese.
Go HERE to read about the reserve, HERE to see what they may do nearby and HERE to see what used to be there.
