Buildings- Cromwell's Cottage-Warrington.
For years and years I thought this was the actual house that Oliver Cromwell lived in.
Situated next to Sainsbury’s which as a kid was a world of wonderment and cream horn cakes, the grade two-listed building now houses a restaurant called the Cottage.
Feeling fresh from all of my discounted habitat shopping and nectar card treats I finally went to get up close to the house.
As it was August bank holiday weekend there wasn’t many people about and it gave me a chance to even cross over the road.
After finding safety at the pedestrian crossing and then back on to the Sainsbury’s side I felt fulfilled enough to have seen all that I needed.
After more mooching on the internet, it turns out the cottage is where he sent dispatches proclaiming victories over Scottish Royalists during battles at Preston, Winwick and Warrington so he did go in there. Thanks Oliver Cromwell cottage that wasn’t actually where he lived.
