Observations- Thursday-3rd August-Tuesday 8th August 2023.

Thursday 3rd August- For the first time ever I saw a Hummingbird Hawk Moth and it was in my garden special. I heard a loud buzzing like a big bee and a magical bird like entity was flying past the liquorice and on to the Buddleia. Lots of shouting and ‘LOOK AT THIS! LOOK AT THIS! ensued. I had no way of photographing it as it was so fast but it was truly a wonderful thing. Go HERE to see one in action.

Friday 4th August- Fox came at around midnight and ate three sausages, two pieces of bread and half a box of dog biscuits.

Saturday 5th August- Saw a raft spider on my brothers pond. It was most exciting and it skated very gracefully.

Sunday 6th August- It rained all day.

Monday 7th August- Saw that the big buddleia had been cut down in the works car park. This was very upsetting as it was huge and always full of bees and butterflies. It is now a sad stump of dead. I have seen one growing on the roof though and although this is deemed as bad, I like its style. Here is a picture of what it looked like.

Tuesday 8th August- Its flying ant day! I enjoyed this spectacle very much and watched as the queens climbed high up to take off. I saw a very big Song thrush swoop down to an emerging nest to feast on them. All of today was lovely surrounded by the ants.

Go HERE to see a massive flying ant day spectacular!
