Edgelands-Pex Hill-Cronton-Cheshire.

Next to my favourite garden centre is Pex Hill. The Mersey Forest website says;

‘Pex Hill is an unusual stunted oak woodland surrounded by heathland, with excellent views of the Mersey Estuary and the mountains of North Wales. It also incorporates a disused quarry and an astronomical observatory.’

The Leighton Observatory is opposite the car park and it is part of the Liverpool Astronomical Society. You can find out more HERE.

I visited in February, on the type of day where you can finally opt for a jumper and not the big coat. With the Blackthorn in full bloom, so are the Chiffchaffs, following you through the trees. It is quite atmospheric and odd.

There is a little more about the area HERE and the quarry was in use as early as the 16th century! Old.

Do you know, I had a really nice walk and I must make sure I go back in every season to see how it is getting on.

Go HERE for a walking route.
