Cathedrals-Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King-Liverpool.
Having a walk around towns and cities sometimes, with nothing really in mind, just nosing is sometimes all that is needed. Is it called a drift? Anyway going to nose and drift around the Catholic Cathedral in Liverpool is never time wasted due to the wonderful art and stained glass inside. I am besotted and although I have visited countless time over the years, I still need to look inside if I am passing and investigate the light and the colours.
Watch this wonderful film below of the Cathedral being built with architect Frederick Gibberd, and artists John Piper and Patrick Reyntiens showing the glass design and make from start to finish.
Other things to see are the main door panels outside designed by William Mitchell. The Windows, tabernacle and reredos (the blue and yellow station) by Ceri Richards. Risen Christ sculpture by Arthur Dooley and a Christ figure on the high altar by my favourite Elisabeth Frink. Loads to see. Also go HERE to see Art+Christianity’s website, that showcases the various artworks across the cathedral and many others.
