Churches, St Helens Parish Church, HOD, St Helens.
As part of the HOD weekends, St Helens Parish Church or the Church of St Helen, stayed open for a two weeks to visit, so I nipped over on my dinner hour.
I haven’t been in the church since I was around ten. This was for walking day with the Guides. I carried my Guide packs flag down the aisle (33rd St Nicholas). I don’t remember much else as I was fixated on showing off my sash of badges. I was a badge swot and I needed everyone to see I was the best. However I do remember seeing a Guide from a different patrol with two sashes full of badges and I have never really got over it.
The present church on the site today was designed by W. D. Caroe, and was built between 1920 and 1926. The church is Grade II listed and is becoming a Minster. You can read about that HERE.
It is bigger than I remembered and it was a really nice visit and break in my dinner. You can read more about the church HERE and find out what’s on there, HERE.
