Public Art, Bridge Mural, Part Two, Thatto Heath, St Helens.

Five years ago, I stumbled upon this old railway footbridge. It was just as the Covid restrictions were starting and I remember the park felt weird.

I walked over to the bridge and it had an old mural on it. I tried and tired to find out about it but there was nothing. I liked the scrubland that the bridge led to. I liked to think it was a very small remnant of the original heathland, that Thatto Heath is named after.

Forward five years, which is ridiculous, I was in the area again briefly. The scrubland is becoming a new housing estate, the footpath through it is blocked off and the old mural has been painted over and re-muralised? with some very enlightening drawings. I liked it better before.

Go HERE to read a report from the Archaeological Data Service by Salford Archaeology about the scrubland that was opposite the bridge. Exciting.
