Walks, Highcombe, Surrey.

Visited January 2026.

Further along from Hindhead and The Devils Punchbowl is the Highcombe Hike. There was no hiking from me so a gentle stroll was taken around the other side of the old A3. This time I did see London from the hill and what I think was The Shard.

Nobody was around and the Great tits were shouting out of the trees. I walked up to The Robertson Memorial and saw a wintered Robins pincushion. I then walked back on myself and sniffed my first Gorse of the year.

The National Trust says;

‘The Robertson Memorial at Highcombe Copse commemorates the lives of Second Lieutenant Laurance Robertson (36), King's Own Scottish Borderers, who was killed in action during the Battle of the Somme on 30 July 1916 and his brother, Captain Norman Robertson (40) of 2nd Battalion, Hampshire Regiment, who died on 20 June 1917. The Robertson memorial at Highcombe Copse is one of nine placed on high ground around South East England. It was paid for by William Robertson, Laurance and Norman's older brother.’
