Roman, Roman Bathhouse Hypocaust, Millgate, Wigan.

At the back of the Grand Arcade shopping centre in Wigan, there is a Roman Bathhouse. I believed it to be real and original, and my feet couldn’t take me there fast enough. Imagine then when I read this,

‘The Bathhouse in Wigan was discovered when building started on the Grand Arcade shopping centre. There was a full excavation of the site undertaken by Oxford Archaeology North. Unfortunately only a small reconstructed sample of the site remains.’ SOURCE.

Wigan is a Roman settlement, that was called Coccium. Obviously I knew it was a reconstruction (partly) but I still think that everything Roman is going to look like Vindolanda. I must stop that.
