Churches, St Mary the Virgin, Silchester, Hampshire.
Visited October 2025.
Off the track from the Roman walls, is St Mary the Virgin church. The church dates back to the 12th century and stands on the site of what was the Roman town of Calleva Atrebatum.
The wall paintings are mid C13th and are beautiful. It is very quiet and peaceful. just as I like it.
Go HERE to read more about the church and HERE to read about the sculptor Peter Eugene Ball, whose statue Christus is in the church.
