Churches, Coombes Church, West Sussex.

Visited January 2026.

This little church is a delight. Situated down a farm track with actual said farm next to it, it was a crisp January day when I visited and so quiet except for the cows mooing.

Chalk Spring Churches says;

‘The early medieval Coombes Church is a little Downland treasure. Set on the slope of the Downs at Church Farm, its dedication is unknown, hence the name ‘Coombes Church’. The nave dates from 1100 or before and the chancel was built in the 13th and 14th century. It has served the people of this area for nearly a thousand years as a place of Christian worship and spiritual peace.’

The wall paintings are wonderful and date from the 12th Century. The British Pilgrimage Trust have a bit about them HERE.

Also to add to the excitement across from the church on the hill is Shoreham Cement Works. All the boxes ticked.
